The Center for Secure Information Systems at George Mason University has a Doctoral GRA opening to work on a project aimed at designing Interoperable Representations of Biometric Data through machine learning strategies. This research will provide interoperable solutions in high security applications and extend the range of applications of the biometric technology based on the three primary modalities (i.e., fingerprint, iris and face).
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience related to image processing. Candidates are expected to be capable of working under limited supervision, be well organized and have strong communication skills. Actual work is expected to involve a mix of conceptual design, experimentation, software development, and empirical evaluations (including human subject experiments). The successful candidate is expected to publish papers in top-tier conferences and journals along with other faculty and students. Initial appointments will be for one year with option of renewal for an additional one or two years. The successful candidate will perform research in the area of Applied Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. A primary area of work will be on deploying state of the art machine learning solution for to enhance computer system security, included and not limited to identify potential challenges of applying existing machine learning methods, improve existing data analysis methods or develop novel learning algorithms, perform evaluation of learning algorithms.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned Bachelor, or have it completed by the start date of the position, in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or statistics.
