Purpose

To provide financial support for a graduate student enrolled in the following Volgenau School graduate degree programs: Master of Science in Applied Information Technology (Cyber Security Concentration), Master of Science in Computer Forensics, Master of Science in Information Security and Assurance,or PhD in Information Technology with concentration in information Security.

Sources of Funding

This fellowship has been created by a generous contribution from the Information Systems Security Association-Northern Virginia Chapter (ISSA-NOVA) in memory of Laurie McQuillian, one of the its founding members.  ISSA-NOVA contribution is being matched by Mason’s Center for Secure Information Systems (CSIS) and Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE).  

Student Eligibility

Student eligibility criteria for Laurie McQuillian Memorial Graduate Research Fellowship fellowship are as follows:

  • The fellowship is open to graduate level students (Master and/or Doctoral Degree) with a major in Information Assurance and/or Computer System Security.
  • The recipient student must be enrolled for 6 credit hours per semester.
  • The selected student must possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • The student must be a US Citizen and reside in the United States.
  • The student must agree that his/her name may be used by ISSA and ISSA-NOVA in the promotion of the ISSA-NOVA Chapter, which may or may not include the use of his/her picture in the promotion of chapter activities. Promotional materials may be in hardcopy or electronic form to include emailed newsletters or the ISSA international and/or chapter website.

Amount of the Award

One fellowship in the amount of $10,000 is available for the academic year 2012-2013. 

Deadline

July 15, 2012. Award will be announced by August 15, 2012.

·         A cover sheet that includes your name, email and postal addresses, as well as phone number

·         Copies of your undergraduate and graduate transcripts

·         Two letters of recommendation.
